European Parliament Forthcoming Responsible Research and Innovation Event

The European Parliament's Science and Technology Options Assessment Office will be holding a Responsible Research and Innovation event on March 19th, between 14.30 to 17.00.

Following an introduction by Italian MEP Vittorio Prodi, MEP, STOA, the presentations will be as follows:

- Setting the stage: responsible governance in the context of science, technology and society relations, Simone Arnaldi [2], Centre for environmental, ethical, legal and social decisions on emerging technologies (CIGA), University of Padova, Italy

- The need for integration in assessing emerging science and technologies; results from the EST-Frame project, Ellen-Marie Forsberg [3], Oslo and Akershus University College, Norway

- Ethics in Responsible research and Innovation; a global perspective from the GEST project, Miltos Ladikas [4], University of Central Lancashire, UK and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany

- Responsible Research and Innovation in China, Yandong Zhao [5], Chinese Academy of Science and Technology for Development, PR China

- Responsible Research and Innovation in India, Sachin Chaturvedi [6], Research and Information System for Developing Countries, India.

The presentations will be followed by a panel discussion. Panel members include Roger Strand, University of Bergen, Norway, Linda Nielsen, European Group on Ethics in Science and Technology, Jan Staman, Rathenau Institute, The Netherlands and Gilles Laroche, Science with and for Society Unit, European Commission.

After a question and answer session, final remarks will be made by Linda Nielsen [7], European Group on Ethics in Science and Technology, Professor of Global Governance, Copenhagen University.

A concluding statement made by Malcolm Harbour [8], Member of the European Parliament, STOA [9] Vice Chairman will close the proceedings.
