Legislation for Camera Enabled TV Set Tops

di Redazione FGB [1], 20 Giugno 2013

Last week Congressman Michael Capuano and co-sponsor introduced a bill into Congress whose aim is to restrict the use of camera enabled TV set tops.

Cable TV providers are developing the technology so that they can better target their advertising through understanding who is actually watching the TV programs. The cameras will be fitted with face recognition software in order to help in this task.

The legislation hopes to force producers to manufacture and market set tops that do not have the camera integrated to offer to their customers, and to have the phrase "I am watching you" displayed on the TV during operation.

Readers may recall that in 2011 Jonathan Hankins interviewed Congressman Capuano for his Boston Innovation series of posts. A full transcription of the conversation can be found here [3].
