In general<\/strong><\/p>\n

How do you inhabit<\/em> a place on the internet and remain alive through the different internet seasons? And how can you do it so that that place is the expression of an entity as complex as the Bassetti Foundation?
\nYou have to be stable and yet elastic.
\nStable enough to be discovered, contactable and searchable, and elastic enough to model yourself upon the languages, systems and places that are constantly born, disappear and change the web.
\nStable to offer the Foundation and the people who follow it a place in which to identify themselves, elastic to allow the flow of though every useful instrument offered by the web.<\/p>\n

In this sense we can recount three structurally different periods for the website: from its foundation to 2006, from 2006 to 2012, and from 2012 to the present.
\nThe first period characterized by the technologically advanced vision of Gian Maria Borrello and Massimo Bartoli saw the adoption of systems of publication and information exchange such as the blogs and wiki, one of the first of its kind in Italy.
\nThe second, under the guidance of Tommaso Correale Santacroce and Alessandro Scoscia, brought a more coordinated structure to the site, forced by the increase of size and complexity, and moving into the language that the social networks introduced.
\nThe third and at time of writing newly launched period sees the site at the center of a cloud of accounts on the web within which multiple languages and communities of visitors both active and passive come together.<\/p>\n

The first two levels of the map<\/strong><\/p>\n

Until 2006 the Bassetti Foundation website was made up of several different structural means of controlling and accessing content. When we decided to group all of the fragments of the site into a single structure that would allow for a single menu and index, we discovered that it would not be possible to import all of the old articles. Therefore the articles from that period have been ‘frozen’ in their form and graphics, as we continue to look for appropriate solutions in order to insert them into the new graphics and index.
\nConcretely speaking two solutions have been adopted: the forced insertion under the new contextual menu (with the use of ‘frames’, not fully standardized on the web but often necessary), and ‘reload’, via the manual importation into the new structure of the site (copy and paste, renewing links, modification of the graphics etc).
\n The above explains why although the site has had three different structural ‘moments’, four levels appear on the map: the lower two represent firstly the materials that are ‘frozen’ and secondly the level that contains the materials that have been “reloaded” and inserted into the new graphics and permanent index.<\/a><\/p>\n

The Page section<\/em>
\n <\/strong>The ‘page’ section contains the articles that describe the Foundation, the Curriculum of the main authors the service pages and all of the articles recouped (reloaded) from the site before 2006, that we refer to as ‘frozen’. <\/a><\/p>\n

Periodic images<\/em>
\n Responsible innovation<\/em> has a broad array of thematic areas, so between 2003 and 2006 an image was used to represent the area that was being explored in that moment.
\n This page<\/a> holds the majority of them.<\/a><\/p>\n

Reloaded articles<\/em>
\nIn the first six years of activity the site posted a large number of contributions from great authors, and many of them are equally valid today. Several of these articles are still amongst the most searched by visitors to the site, so we have chosen to manually import them into the new structure and index. This procedure is also used to make texts that the Foundation editorial staff feel are relevant today and pillars of thought and reflection re-emerge.
\nOne article that we could cite as an example relates to the workshop that lead to the founding of the Bassetti Foundation: Workshop sulla Fondazione Giannino Bassetti.<\/a><\/a><\/p>\n

Reloaded arguments.<\/em>
\n <\/strong>The ‘arguments’ section was the equivalent of today’s ‘Focus’. For many years it was the repository of articles, messages, comments, blogs, calls for comments and other interventions published in the different areas of the site.
\n Some of the pages have been ‘reloaded’.

Calls for Comments<\/em>
\n <\/strong>The Calls for Comments are one of the activities that the Foundation has used since its inception to involve academics, experts, scientists, politicians etc in the discussion of a theme that ten years ago was considered ‘strange’, almost an contradiction: responsibility in innovation.
\n Today the situation is very different. On the one hand ‘our’ theme is seen as necessary, as modern, on the other hand the use of the internet has radically changed, both in its fruition and in its use as an instrument of communication and dialogue.
\n The Call for Comments existed before the boom of the blogosphere and long before the social network phenomena took hold. The people who participated then now use different means to communicate their ideas. The Foundation has also changed, and now ever more so uses the intersection between online and physical involvement, both in its seat in Milan and in universities.
\nThe calls for Comments have become an extension of the seminars and meetings organized by the Foundation, and interweave dialogue with the social networks.

Frozen articles<\/em>
\n As described above, a lot of materials published before 2006 could not be imported into the site’s new structure. Most of these articles were written directly for the Bassetti Foundation, to help us develop and promote a definition of innovation and of responsibility, and their short circuit responsibility in innovation<\/em>.
\n We immediately decided that nothing published should be lost, (many sites in fact link to our material because they know it will always be available).
\n Therefore the decision was taken to ‘freeze’ that part of the site that was not technologically importable to the new structure. The 2006 passage was in fact made necessary by the by the size of the site itself and the new forms of its use and that of the wider web.
\n For example here<\/a> is one of the articles written with the spirit of the wiki. And the text of a lecture from 2004 given by Piero Bassetti entitled “La responsabilit\u00e0 nell’innovazione<\/a>“.<\/a><\/p>\n

Arguments<\/em>
\n As already noted the ‘Arguments’ section was the equivalent of the present “Focus” section and for years gathered together the articles, messages, comments, blogs, calls for comment and other interventions published throughout the site. After a Home Page with the logo of the Bassetti foundation and links to go to the sections either in English or Italian (the two parts are not in fact the same) the reader was taken to page that was already structured like the Home Page of a blog: the headlines and introduction phrases to various articles, with sections that reported on particular content and dialogues in course. All was brought into this page, but the general structure of the site lead the reader to various graphic versions and secondary Home Pages. The site really was a sort of urban sprawl that had grown through enthusiam for the web.
\n This important portion of the site has also been ‘frozen’. Only a small part has been imported into the new structure but it is all still accessable, indexed and frequented.
\n re is an example<\/a>. Note that the login for the writers is visible, a signil to get everyone to write and gain contributions.<\/a><\/p>\n

The first Blogs<\/em>
\n The Bassetti Foundation was founded upon the forward thinking idea of existing only on the web, and remained so for more than six years. It was therefore fundamental that we used every new instrument that the evolving web offered to create dialogue, debatre ame meetings. As soon as blogs were available they became part of the site because they simplified the working of what was previously done manually. And with the first blog came the first wiki, whose use became lead to what were known as ‘collaborative articles’.
\n The website of the Bassetti foundation, speaking about innovation, has always tried to be innovative itself, or at least to make those instruments that prove themselves to be the best innovations for the sharing, involvement and transmission of knowledge through the web, to make something its own.
